Isolation Self-Portraits at Pacific Beach, WA

The beginning of the unknown. This was my first day of not working because my job was shut down due to the Corona Virus outbreak. The events that have transpired in the last two months in Washington have happened so rapidly that I still have trouble processing them. I live alone in an apartment in Hilltop/Downtown tacoma neighborhood. My stable day job is working as assistant manager at a retail location that is considered non essential in a contagious disease outbreak. When I get stressed I often try to get to the ocean. I was raised in Oceanside, California only 15 minutes from the ocean. So when I get in some kind of stressful state I tend to go to the sea. At this point the Governor had not shut down beaches and all public parks. I drove out and only stopped for gas being careful to keep my distance from people. The whole time I shot these photos I kept a tremendous amount of distance from others to be safe. It is a beautiful park with a wide shoreline. This work is not typical to my style but I’m really pleased with them. I also shot these and edited them on my iPhone. I felt it important to not focus on the equipment but rather be as light weight and free to create. I hoped to capture some of the emotions that me and many others are feeling all over the world.
